Samsung Produces 40nm DDR3 for Desktops

Samsung's shrunken chip technology will first be used in a 1GB DDR2-800 SO-DIMM module and has been validated for Intel's GM45 platform. The company also said it plans to apply its 40nm technology to develop a 2Gbit DDR3 device for mas production by the end of the year.
Back in February of this year, Samsung developed and validated its first 40nm DRAM chip, and now five months later, the chip maker announced it has begun mass producing 2Gb DDR3 using the smaller manufacturing process.
Samsung says the move to 40nm will provide around a 60 percent increase in production capacity over a 50nm process, and it won't all be relegated to the server market, according to news and rumor site DigiTimes. In addition to 16GB, 8GB, and 4GB RDIMMs for servers, Samsung will use the 40nm manufacturing process to build UDIMMs (unregistered in-line memory modules) for workstatios, desktops, and notebooks of up to 4GB.
The energy efficient chips support a data rate of up to 1.6Gbps at just 1.35V, double that of an 800Mbps 1Gb-based dual-die package.

Will Apple sue Microsoft?

A few days ago Microsoft revealed that Apple’s lawyers had contacted them regarding the laptop hunter ads, and that they requested the entire campaign be pulled from airwaves. To most non Microsoft sized companies this would be a serious threat, but so far the boys in Redmond are undeterred by Apple’s legal posturing and are actually trying to use it to their advantage. Apple’s primary complaint is that some of the ads feature out of date comparison information that changed when Apple refreshed its hardware lineup and dropped its prices at WWDC in June.
The inconsistencies are fairly minor and ultimately don’t change the message they were trying to deliver, but do you believe Apple would ever actually try to sue Microsoft? Cnet speculated that any type of legal action would only harm Apples reputation, and would help to give Microsoft the creditability it needs to keep winning back the hearts and minds of the value conscious consumers. Pulling advertisements because the claims are no longer accurate isn’t unprecedented, but would it harm Apple’s case more than it would help if they pressed the issue?
Apple's complaint is that A (note the singular) commercial has ONE computer of theirs that most certainly DID have said pricing at the time of the filiming of the commercial, which anyone with the least bit of competence knows will take at least weeks if not months before airing, and on top of that computer technology is routinely changing. But Apple's assertion is that M$ (who I bare no love for mind you) is purposely misrepresenting the facts of the matter?
How about Apple's entire "Macs are cooler than God" campaign, where every single selling point was based on either out right lies or claims that wouldn't have been accurate in 2001, much less now. M$ felt no need to say anything to Apple about their gross misrepresentation(s) in an entire ad campaign because anyone that knew anything about the matter knew Apple is/was full of "bovine fecal matter" and were just stabbing in the dark trying to pretend like they are relevant.

Wireless keyboard with built-in touchpad review

Well, it may not quite match the likes of Logitech's diNovo edge in either form or function, but this new wireless keyboard from Miyoshi does nonetheless pack all the basics, and a slightly lower price tag than some of its competitors.
That includes, as you can see above, a somewhat curiously placed touchpad, along with all the usual media-specific keys, a slider control of some sort, and full 2.4GHz wireless capabilities to make it a bette fit for your HTPC setup. No word on a release 'round here just yet, but it looks like folks in Japan can pick this one up now for ¥9,980, or just over $100.
The advantage of a trackpad centered below the keyboard is to minimize hands motion, putting it all the way to the right is pointless... especially for left-handed people.

The 99-Cent Netbook review released by Sprint

A $1 netbook sounds like a Third World fantasy. Ironically, such a netbook has become a reality in the US. Sprint and Best Buy have combined forces to sell the Compaq Mini 110c-1040DX Netbook for 99 cents.
The only caveat being that interested persons will have to opt for a two-year service contract with Sprint Nextel, which costs $1,440 and offers 5GB of data.
The same netbook, which features a 1.60GHz Intel Atom processor, 10-inch screen and 160 HDD, is also being offered by AT&T and Verizon along with a two-year contract for $199. Its actual price is $389.
Remember around 10 years ago or so when you could buy a super cheap or practically free computer from Best Buy or Circuit City? Remember the catch was you had to sign a 2 year ISP contract for $30+ a month dial up? Remeber how lame that was? Well, apparently everybody forgot because here we go again. Of course the wireless companies have always done that and are still doing it. Here's a free phone but you have to sign a contract for the service.

Intel-based Thin Laptops Plagued with Design Flaws?

Doug Freedman, an analyst for Broadpoint AmTech, has revealed to Cnet that early production units of ultra-thin laptops, which are being made out of plastic, are fissuring due to design flaws. He gleaned this information from his discussions with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs).
Freedman believes manufacturers will have to ultimately “go with a metal case” to achieve that ultra-thin form factor they are after. However, the use of metal cases will make ultra-thin notebooks costlier.
A reference to Intel’s CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) technology – meant for ultra-thin notebooks - in Freedman’s report elucidating the design issues prompted Intel to clarify that the “case design issues reported to be found by an ODM, not consumers, in early production units for ultra-thin laptops have nothing to do with Intel processors whatsoever.”
Freedman had said that some manufacturers are more interested in manufacturing 11-inch and 12-inch netbooks with the Atom processor rather than ultra-thin notebooks with Intel’s CULV technology.
